Danny Shirey, raised in Columbus, Ohio, covers and analyzes the Pittsburgh Penguins for DK Pittsburgh Sports.

Shirey began writing about Pittsburgh sports in the seventh grade when he created his own blog. Since then, he has written for multiple websites covering and analyzing the Penguins and the NHL. He studied journalism and sports management during college and most recently wrote for The Pensblog. He started writing the weekly Drive to the Net column for DK Pittsburgh Sports at the beginning of the 2021-22 NHL season before transitioning to a full-time role on the Penguins beat that postseason.

Shirey currently resides on the North Side of Pittsburgh with his girlfriend Maddie. Before moving to Pittsburgh, he coached high school hockey for five seasons with the Gahanna Lions and Newark Generals in Central Ohio. He spends the majority of his time combing through data or film, but when he’s not, he enjoys disc golfing, as well as bugging Maddie to watch reruns of The Walking Dead.
